Free tools take the brakes off Nvidia graphics cards: up to twice as much AI computing power
Free open-source tools remove a brake that Nvidia built into the firmware of its GeForce graphics cards. For AI calculations, some cards become up to twice as fast. In practice the gain is smaller, and the tools are still experimental.

Four-legged robot solves a giant Rubik's Cube using only its legs
Researchers at ETH Zürich and Nvidia taught a four-legged inspection robot to solve a giant Rubik's Cube using only its legs. It tips the cube over and turns the layers, without human help. All three attempts succeeded, each in eight to nine minutes.

Nvidia lets AI agents do only what is allowed, and checks the rules in advance with mathematics
Nvidia presents OpenShell: free software that lets AI agents work in a sealed-off space. A mathematical check looks in advance at whether the rules allow more than intended, and according to Nvidia a separate chip can stop an agent within milliseconds.

Siemens factory in Erlangen teaches AI cameras to inspect with simulated photos, before a prototype exists
In a German electronics factory, Siemens and Nvidia let AI prepare the production of new circuit boards with a digital copy of the factory. According to Siemens, this saves up to 85 per cent of the preparation work. It is a first step towards a factory that adjusts itself.

Nvidia simulates a 104-qubit quantum circuit on a European supercomputer, real errors included
Nvidia and the German research centre Jülich used the JUPITER supercomputer to simulate how a 104-qubit quantum computer makes an important building block, including the errors that real hardware makes. This lets designs be tested before they are built.

d-Matrix splits the work of an AI model across two kinds of chips for faster answers
At a major data centre conference, the American chip company d-Matrix showed how an AI model answers faster when ordinary graphics chips and its own chips each do the work they are good at. The company now also supplies complete computing clusters.

Nvidia releases open AI models for digital assistants on servers and laptops
Nvidia has released three new open AI models for assistants that carry out tasks on their own. The largest runs in companies' data centres; the smaller ones simply work on a laptop. According to Nvidia, the large model beats top models on specialist tasks after extra training.

US project builds digital twin of SPARC fusion reactor to predict plasma within 20 minutes
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is building a digital twin of the SPARC fusion reactor with four American national laboratories, NVIDIA and Google DeepMind. The goal: predict plasma behaviour in less than 20 minutes, between two experiments. That is still an ambition, not a result.
